Portrait of Matt Styles

Matt Styles

Staff Software EngineerProvo, Utah

I'm a software engineer with more than a decade of experience designing scalable, high-performance systems — distributed service-oriented architectures, cloud communication platforms, and workflow automation.

Most recently I was a Staff Software Engineer at Lendio, where I led the move to containerized infrastructure and architected an asynchronous loan eligibility engine that earned me Employee of the Year. Before that I spent eight years at XANT, rebuilding a calling platform that handled millions of interactions a day. On the side I build things like Pitaka, a local-first desktop app for searching and annotating an ebook library.

Outside of software, I'm an ultramarathon runner and Luna Athlete, representing Luna Sandals in 50-mile, 100-mile, and other endurance events.

Experience

  1. Lendio

    Staff Software Engineer

    Jun 2021 – Aug 2026

    Lehi, UT

Architected and led a scalable, asynchronous loan eligibility engine that evaluated configurable lending rules across thousands of businesses in multistage batch workflows — recognized as Employee of the Year. Led the containerization of the application stack (Vagrant to Docker Compose), laying the foundation for the move to Kubernetes. Built a TypeScript microservice syncing payroll data from customers' HR platforms, a configurable workflow automation platform for SMS and email across the applicant lifecycle, and an AI-agent integration for automated applicant intake. Provided Staff-level technical leadership across teams.

  2. Lendio

    Senior Software Engineer

    Mar 2020 – Jun 2021

    Lehi, UT

Promoted to Staff Software Engineer in June 2021.

  3. XANT

    Senior Software Engineer

    May 2015 – Mar 2020

    Provo, UT

Built and maintained the cloud communications platform behind the company's flagship product, handling millions of call interactions per day worldwide. Rebuilt it from a legacy monolith into a distributed, highly scalable service-oriented architecture, and implemented the CI/CD pipeline — unit tests, REST API integration tests, and deployment to AWS, Azure, and local data centers.
